Welcome to, errr, Spring!
My first post on the blog was going to be a joyous, bouncing-lamb and bursting-blooms “Welcome to our New Zealand Spring” affair but, alas, it wasn’t meant to be.
The fourth day into the season of soil-warming and thrusting green shoots, it decided to snow. After basking in 18 degrees we, and all the now not-so-bouncing lambs, were taken by frigid surprise.

Happy 10th Birthday to Condé Nast UK
Ten years ago this month, the first ever issue of Condé Nast in the UK rolled off the printing press and on to the shelves.
Throughout that decade the magazine has maintained its commitment to “truth in travel”, taking no free travel trips, paying for all their accommodation and transportation and never knowingly publishing information garnered from a press trip. How refreshing!

Missing my 'writer's bump'
In a rare moment of decadence I decided on a manicure. The lady (for she was, after all, over 60) remarked on my “writer’s bump”. It had me wondering, do young writers today even know what a “writer’s bump” is? I remember being very proud of mine – it said “she’s surgically attached to her pen” and I could recognize other wordsmiths by their calloused middle digits.

Countdown to ebook launch
It's almost time for my travel-writing ebook to be launched.
It's so exciting and somewhat new ground for me as I usually write and publish articles. It's really quite easy - and I'm keen to do another. It's all down to planning and research, planning and research, planning, more research and then putting it down on paper. And then researching again.

Come and get it...
It's ready and it's out there!
Grab your free copy, read it and then come back here and tell me what you think. Hopefully it will leave you inspired and with a more realistic view of a travel writer's lot.
Whew! I think I deserve a glass or three of some velvety New Zealand red, don't you?
Happy reading!
Helen

Suffering from screensuck or Gemmelsmerch?
It seems that every day there's a new word to add to your cerebral dictionary.
My current favorites are gemmelsmerch (I just love that word!) and screensuck. More importantly, they have, at various times, applied to me.
